Special Education
The Solon Springs School District offers a full continuum of special education and related services for students age 3 through 21. Our special education model focuses highly on inclusive services. Students are provided services within the general education setting to the extent possible to meet their unique and individual needs. We are currently building our early childhood program (for students with special needs prior to 4-year-old kindergarten) with the assistance of the Eagles Nest Childcare Center. We also strive to provide work and appropriate course offerings to assist high school students prepare for postsecondary opportunities.
Related Services:
Special education related services includes a number of services which may be implemented as part of an individualized education plan (IEP) to help a child with a disability benefit from special education. These services may include: transportation, speech and language supports, school psychological services, occupational or physical therapies, and/or school counseling. Children may be entitled to one or a number of related services as determined by their IEP team.
Section 504
Section 504 is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. Section 504 ensures that the child with a disability has equal access to education. To accomplish this, the Section 504 team completes an evaluation to determine eligibility for a section 504 plan. Then, the team develops an individual service or accommodation plan outlining what accommodations and modifications the student requires to gain access to the school’s general education curriculum. This plan is similar to a special education individualized education plan (IEP), but does not include goals or specialized instruction.
